What Alaska parents can learn from star's child custody battle

There are many issues that need to be settled before a divorce is finalized. One of the major issues Alaska spouses face is child custody. The challenge of child custody arrangements can depend upon how well exes get along with each other. One star of television reality show, "The Real Housewives of Orange County," is in a child custody battle with her ex, who is seeking to change the agreement.

Tamra and her ex have three children together. According to reports, Tamra Barney's ex recently filed to amend their custody agreement. The ex claims that she is a negligent parent who does not keep their children clean nor does she adequately feed them. Her daughter reportedly added into the documents that she was being emotionally and verbally abused by her mother. Tamra stated that these claims are false and this is one of her worst nightmares.

To add even more insult to injury, the mother and her daughter had an intense text message argument. Eventually, the text message argument spilled over into social media platform, twitter, which resulted in a battle. Tamra is understandably worried about her children's emotional well-being, especially since the child custody dispute is public.

Divorce is rarely easy for Alaska spouses. Positive communication can be a key element to making child custody and co-parenting arrangements that work for both former spouses, as well as the children. Having a bitter child custody battle just out of anger not only hurts the ex, but also hurts the children. For those couples unable to work out a mutual agreement, litigation in a family law court may be required. A judge will then sort out the details based upon what is in the best interests of the children.
