Child custody battle involves Bethenny Frankel, Jason Hoppy

Emotions naturally can flare during a divorce proceeding in Alaska if the two parties can’t concur on matters involving how to share their assets. Some of the most emotional discussions, however, often take place when it comes to child custody. One reality television star in a different state currently is facing what appears to be a strong child custody battle with her ex.

The star, Bethenny Frankel, recently testified against Jason Hoppy in court, accusing him of wanting to “destroy” the star following her decision to divorce him. The two individuals announced that they were separating about one and a half years ago. Frankel filed for divorce in Jan. 2013 after the two had been married for two years.

The pair are fighting over custody of Brynn, the only child they had together. Frankel has requested the sole right to make decisions regarding the child and wants primary custody. Meanwhile, Hoppy desires shared custody. The child is 4 years old. However, Frankel said that she doesn’t see co-parenting as an option since Hoppy stated that he didn’t want to deal with her anymore.

Family law in Alaska allows two parents to pursue a child custody arrangement that puts the best interests of the child first, while considering their own wishes. If the court has to get involved, a judge may also look at the children’s personal wishes (depending on the age of the child) and their relationships with both parents. With appropriate legal guidance, two parents can achieve an outcome that permits each of them to remain active in their children’s lives.
